If you're reading this, then you're all too familiar with late nights and burning through coffee to catch up on 10 weeks of workload in 8 hours. It's 5 am and the exam is in five hours. You might be experiencing a roller-coaster of emotions throughout the day and swear that you'll never do this to yourself again, but next semester you're in the library cramming again.

"Every semester I leave work until the night it's due and
burn myself out through sleepless nights and ultimately feel like I haven't learned anything in the process"
Turn yourself into the goal hitting, organised, productive self by following these simple 5 steps!
1. Lectureszzzzz
Do you find yourself checking the time and 5 minutes feels like 3 hours? Missing key learning concepts early in the semester can leave you feeling less confident in your capabilities to overcome old habits.
TIP: Find out your learning style and adjust your studying sessions to be more interesting for you! Take note of what works for you and what doesn't. This will help you stay engaged and less likely to fall back into old habits. |
|
2. Consistency
Build a consistent habit of making time each day to sit down and do assessments in intervals. Start with a reasonable time frame that you think is achievable and pick a quiet space to avoid distractions.
TIP: Take 15 minute breaks to refresh yourself every 50-90 minutes. This is a time to reward yourself, go for a walk, have a coffee, read something not related to your study content. However, be mindful that you stay on schedule! |
|
3. Procrastination
So the break might have turned into remodelling your Sims house, but the good thing is that you're aware! Procrastination is generally your brain trying to get you back in the comfort zone to avoid the pain of a mundane task.
TIP: Make it harder for yourself to be distracted. Leave the house if you have to! Keep your phone on silent and away from arms reach! And become aware of yourself each time you're off task, most procrastination habits are made unconsciously. |
|
4. Time Management
Get a study planner!
These are available free or at your local home and office retailers. TIP: Get in the habit of making "To Do" lists the night before and keep it in a place that is visible when you wake up. That way you've set yourself goals to achieve throughout the day! |
