A PATH TO A SUCCESSFUL LIFE: BACKGROUND AND BRIEF HISTORY OF M-YES
Concept M-YES was founded by passionate agents of change in the community in order to motivate, empower and steer young people from a munticultural background to lead and maintain a successful life. The association sprung to being at the first Elections of the Committee of M-YES in 2009.
We understand the current state of affairs for the youth from a diverse cultural and linguistic background. It is very hard to learn a new language, let alone master it enough to compete with the mainstream youth of the same age group.
In order to provide a chance for these young people, most of whom are from a refugee background, we have developed Empowerment Framework comprised of three main categories: Mentoring, Education and Traning, Positive Sports Impact.
Mentoring Strategy: recruits mentors from technical walks of life in order to work with the young people in attainng a short term objective that is set to lead to a long term goal.
Education and Traning Strategy: matches young people with suitable traning at Technical Insititures, Apprenticeship Centres, Community Work Experience, etc. Also leads youth to understand how to prepare for career pathways by studying career specific subjects at school, TAFE or university.
Sports Strategy: is the most radical in that it enables young people to keep fit, triumph in a team, learn the ethos of discipline, hard work, commitment and punctuality all whilst enjoying the sport they love. M-YES currently has more than 20 young people from 8 countries and continues to work with a football team.
"Doing simple things can make a world of difference. We don't want to wait, we want to give a future to young aussies, both boys and girls as well as our newly arrived migrants who face the prospects of depression, who lack any hope of a better life, who yearn for someone to show them how. They are not asking for our money, just a hand to care. Just an ear to listen. Just an insight to counsel. They only want that knowledge, the assurance that they too can be productive members of our society. The cost of inaction now will be ours to bear yet for generations unborn". Tamba.
